We never know the true value of something until it’s gone.
What are we to do when we lose someone? What are we to feel when we never got a chance to say goodbye? Are we to be depressed? Cast a dark cloud over all areas of our life in respect for this monumental loss? Are we to grieve not only the loss of the person, but also the loss of all the future experiences and love that could have been had? How much happiness is stolen from us when we envision a future, only for it not to come to pass? Should we remember only positive traits? Cherish strengths while brushing away any weaknesses? Or do we remember, with full honesty, all the miraculous characteristics, as well as their glaring shortcomings? With time, we are reminded that life does in fact continue. The world does not stop to accommodate our needs. The grains of sand continue to slip through the hourglass, one at a time, marching on to the beat of time. For in these moments of despair, we are reminded that there are countless people in our lives that desperately need our love and care. Another question we might ponder – why do we fear death? Is our life on this planet truly, devoid of sadness and pain, so blissful that we cling to it at all costs? How do we not know that something far better is not waiting for us on the other side? Some might say there’s likely nothing waiting for us. While we may never truly know what awaits, we can be sure of this world, a place that most of us would not say is perfect – actually far from it. Let’s hope that paradise awaits. There is an illusive moral to every story, one that we will only find if we choose to extend our focus beyond our pain.
